We Are Ports - The Full Story

> We Are Ports (WAP) was set up in 2017

We Are Ports was founded by a group of Portadown Football Club supporters in 2017, as a not-for-profit organisation.  The group decided there was a need to form a democratic membership scheme, which was open to everyone, and each member had an equal vote on where their financial contributions were spent within Portadown Football Club.

> Why was We Are Ports Formed?

Over a number of years supporters felt there had been a disconnect between the club, the supporters and the local community.  In 2017 the founding members of WAP wanted to see the community feeling more connected by being brought into the inner workings of their club and having a greater say in its future direction on and off the pitch.

> We Are Ports Membership

There are currently over 100 adult members in We Are Ports, with members based around the world; such as America, Canada, Australia and throughout the U.K.  Each member of WAP pays a minimum monthly contribution and in return they have an elected representative on the Portadown Football Club Board of Directors.  Our representative provides vital two way communication between our members and the clubs Board of Directors.

Members decide how their money is spent, and provide additional finance to all aspects of the club and the Portadown community.  In return all members receive regular exclusive WAP & PFC news via WhatsApp and electronic Newsletters.  We Are Ports also host regular members and community social events/initiatives, aimed at bringing supporters and the community together using the power of football and the PFC name.

Membership of We Are Ports is open to the public, irrespective of ethnic identity, age, gender, nationality, geographical location, sexuality or religion.

> In 2022 We Are Ports became a registered charity

Since being established in 2017, We Are Ports had the long term goal of becoming a registered charity.  Members believed this would allow We Are Ports to develop into a community focused organisation.  One of the first jobs for the founding Committee was to start the process of applying to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland.

In May 2022 We Are Ports completed that process and proudly became a registered charity, which will enable us to continue working towards our objectives.  Our registered charity number is NIC108579.

To date members have raised over £90,000 which has gone directly towards supporting the Portadown FC mens, women's and youth teams, as well as many community initiatives.  â€‹For example; providing sports facilities, funding the invaluable We Are Ports TV, organising and funding community/social events and supporting the board with their hard work away from the pitch.

Now that we have gained charity status we aim to continue working hard towards our objectives.

> Our Objectives - Building better lives through sport

We Are Ports brings together supporters of Portadown Football Club with the goal of growing supporter and community involvement.  Every member of the scheme has a role to play and they have their say in its direction.  Our aim is to see Portadown FC grow on and off the pitch, by placing local people at the heart of our objectives.  Our objectives fall into 3 categories: Sport & Recreation, Education/Training and Community Needs.

We Are Ports aims to support the provision of facilities for sport and recreation for such persons who have a need for such facilities by reason of their youth, age, ethnicity, disablement or social and economic circumstances for the public in the interests of social welfare.
